High Strength Plus Protection Films – climate-friendly and cost-saving

With a new generation of its black and white protective films, POLIFILM PROTECTION is raising the bar in terms of sustainability and efficiency. The company’s innovative High Strength Plus films are significantly thinner than their conventional counterparts. This reduces the amount of virgin material needed, improves the carbon footprint of the value chain and saves on logistics costs—all whilst providing optimal surface protection and uncompromising processing properties.

POLIFILM PROTECTION  illustrates the advantages of this new film development using the example of a standard film commonly used in various applications: whilst  the PF562C film is 70 µm thick, the PF562C with the High Strength Plus formulation is only 50 µm thick. This reduces the consumption of virgin material by 30% and lowers the film’s CO2 footprint by 25%.

As a result, with High Strength Plus films, customers can significantly improve their ecological and carbon footprint . For instance, an average service centre with an annual requirement of around one million square metres  of film that opts for High Strength Plus can save approximately 19 tonnes of fossil-based plastics per year. Additionally, the reduced transport weight leads to lower fuel requirements in the logistics chain.

Optimum protection throughout the entire value chain

Additionally, processors along the entire value chain benefit from optimum protection and processing properties. The High Strength Plus formulation includes an innovative blend of three polymers, making it particularly durable and temperature-resistant. Despite being significantly thinner, it provides the same protection against scratch resistance as its conventional counterpart  and 64% greater impact resistance.

Increased efficiency – optimum handling

High Strength Plus protective films also impress with their excellent dimensional stability and tensile strength, offering significant advantages during lamination, especially when unwinding high adhesive protective films. The reason: they stretch less and can be laminated with reduced tension. This effectively prevents edge lifting and the associated quality issues. Additionally, as there are more running metres  on a single roll, fewer roll changes, production interruptions, and restarts are needed, which reduces the workload.

“Our new High Strength Plus offers our customers more benefits than ever before: It has never been easier to protect the environment whilst enjoying superior surface protection and simultaneously benefiting from lower transportation  and labour costs, as well as any potential tax savings if a tax is in operation in the respective country”,  says Thomas Mähner, Head of Development at POLIFILM PROTECTION.
